3 Things

I usually do pictures for these posts, but I just needed to have this song here. I don't know why, but this whole week I've been going on YouTube to hear this song far too often. It may be because I saw the episode of How I Met Your Mother with this song just the other day, and it's reminded me of the sheer catchy-ness of this song.
I finally finished my Christmas shopping! And by that I mean, I finished it for my college friends! I've decided to make some cookies and give them in tiny boxes to some people, some bracelets and earrings I've made, and my roommate gets some rather silly things I've found! The bag up there just screamed to me, despite it being a Valentine's Day bag, I thought it was perfect for her!!!
I got my Genetic Engineering book! I got my Genetic Engineering book! I got my Genetic Engineering book!
Sorry, I'm really excited for this class, and looking through the textbook is even more exciting. I had it shipped to my house, and when I opened it, my dad said I looked like a kid at Christmas. I'm already on chapter two... :)

Three Things: Being Home

I've found it difficult in the past, to really get into different forms of projects around the house. Usually, when I'm home, I go on cleaning sprees and reorganize everything in my mom's kitchen... which drives her nuts when she's looking for something. This year, I've hit a road block in the cleaning/organizing because I can't get my hands on an over the door spice rack.
I can't find them anywhere
So, in order to circumvent going stir crazy looking for this spice rack, I've decided to do some other house projects like painting some terracotta things my mom bought in India. This picture was from when I was still in the middle of of painting it, but it's done now!
I've also taken a new fancy to taking a lot of outdoor shots of New Hampshire as well. This one was taken as I was going into the Michael's near my house.
I've also been baking a lot! I keep finding myself in baking aisles at Grocery stores and picking up random things, without any idea how to use them! However, I've experimented a lot, and cookies are definitely something that I've really enjoyed playing around with. So far I've made some cinnamon chip cookies, nutella stuffed chocolate chip cookies, and a pomegranate dark chocolate chunk cookie! Playing around with ingredients is definitely a lot of fun, and I love playing around with new flavors and foods. I'm going to make a peppermint mocha cookie this weekend, and if all goes well, I think I'll do a week of delicious cookie recipes for you all!

I hope everyone's been having a great January so far!-- Sheilly

Three Things: Glitter Edition

I haven't been back in my house for a whole week, and I've already started crafting like a crazy person. I found my beloved bottle of glitter and decided to finish some projects that I've been meaning to get around to... by glittzing them up! This was the first project: two mini trays where I keep rings and small things. :)
And since glitter goes everywhere, I decided to find a clever way to put away that glitter!
I'm calling this shade Goldfinger, since OPI don't have it in their line. (And why not name it after the BEST James Bond movie ever?) While I'm not sure if this was the most brilliant plan, I have a fun glitter polish to play around with!

3 Things

So it's December, which means it's the countdown to the end of this year! It's really gone by quickly, hasn't it? Personally I love December, even if it signifies the end of my favorite season, Fall. This December feels a bit strange though. Perhaps it's the fact that it was almost 60 degrees today, or perhaps it's the lack of snow? Either way, I've figured out Christmas gifts for everyone I know, and all I have to do is make them... and also take finals.
I went to Whole Foods the other day, and I found this little surprise there! This bakery is in my hometown. I always  meant to stop by, especially since Liz worked there over the summer, but I never got around to it! Liz told me earlier this semester that Cafe Indigo had just signed a contract with Whole Foods, which would mean that we could buy their sugary goodness. I wasn't expecting it so soon!  So this was definitely a very pleasant surprise, that I couldn't help but buy. I ended up getting this brand's chocolate chip cookie bar the other day as well. I can't tell which one I liked more. Next on the list: Carrot Cake? (AKA After finals treat?)
I finally saw Skyfall on Friday night! It was the really late showing at 10:50 PM, but it was so fun! Personally not my favorite Bond movie, but I could go on about James Bond for a very long time. (Which I just might!) Either way, I loved the theme song, I loved all the callbacks to prior James Bond movies, I loved the cinematography. One thing I would change? Daniel Craig runs really weird. It somewhat ruined the serious scenes for me because he was running and looking silly. (His elbows form perfect right angles!) Also-- since Friday, I've listened to nothing but James Bond themes. I really regret nothing.
Finally my favorite part of this past week: Penny Wars! Penny Wars is this building wide contest my dorm does, where we collect as many pennies as we can to win! Each floor is pitted against the other. The rules are: any penny or gold dollar coin counts as a positive for your floor, and silver change and dollar bills counts as a negative. When I first moved in, my RA described this contest, and my suities (girls who live in my suite) and I decided we wanted to win it. That first year, our suite alone was able to make more than 42 dollars worth of pennies! Last year, we had a similar shenanigan, as with this year! Our floor has always finished ahead of all the other floors in a drastic sweeping victory. Can't wait for next year's contest! :)

All in all, it was a very good weekend! Now for finals and projects... I hope everyone had a good weekend! -- Sheilly

3 Things

Being home is fantastic. New Hampshire is as beautiful as ever, the view through my bedroom window is amazing, and my mother makes the best food on earth. This is why I forgot to post on Thanksgiving... like I meant to. Oops!

Sometimes I wake up with a huge hankering for pie, specifically apple pie. Earlier this year I found Apple Pie Poptarts at the Target near my university. I'm not the biggest fan of poptarts, but I will probably buy any form of apple pie if possible. So I woke up, with this strange hankering for apple pie, and unfortunately the Target near my house did not have these poptarts. (Or if they did, I missed them because it was Black Friday and I was in a mad dash to buy a blender.) I remember recalling a recipe I saw for homemade apple pie poptarts on  A Beautiful Mess, and decided today would be a fantastic time to try it out!  It was delicious. I cheated, and used a Concord Farm's Apple Crisp mix to make the filling, mainly because I was too lazy to find my cinnamon, but it was still delicious!

I am absolutely the worst shopper on Earth. I usually find something I really like, only to not buy it because it's outside of my price range, or it's far too much than I'm willing to pay for. So to my luck, this thanksgiving I finally bought the cutest pair of boots for under 30 dollars. I'm not sure how long they will last, but I've gotten boots from Old Navy before, and they're lovely as ever. I don't usually buy shoes if I have a good pair, however, I don't have really good boots. My cowboy boots have a ridiculous heel that I can't really pull off for everyday wear, and I'm just stupidly excited for these pair of boots to come in. :)
The most exciting thing I'm looking forward to once I get out of classes this year is to come back home and craft. I guess this is one of those teaser photos as to what will come? There's so much I want to make, and so many ideas I want to try out! But first to finish this semester.

I hope everyone's had a lovely thanksgiving and a wonderful few days off... maybe! -- Sheilly

3 Things

Mondays are usually the worst days for me. I have four classes and although I have breaks in between all of them, I’m still a frantic mess. Running back and forth between my classes, and then finally making that trek back to my room is just dreadful most of the time. To make up for this Monday’s craziness, my roommate and I decided to make mint chocolate chip cookies. They were scrumptious!

Tuesday was a wet, dreary day, but it was the perfect weather for some flannel and rain boots. Despite my love of flannel and my rain boots, my day just would not have been as happy were it not for one of my favorite pair of socks. My dear sweet friend Liz gave me a pair of socks with some bright colored hearts for my birthday two years ago, and I love wearing them when I need some cheering up.

We lost a week due to Hurricane Sandy, and we’re still working on making up for that lost week. This week I’ve got a bunch of stuff to hand in, and midterms to study for! My whiteboard has been covered in scribbles of Organic Chemistry, To Do lists, and random outlines for papers. Every little bit is usually covered except for one part. There’s one corner of my whiteboard that has my little mantra, and I’m so grateful for it!
